Semi-Private Strength Training · Leaside, East York
You don't get weaker because you get older. You feel older because you stopped moving.
Stronger After 50 is a small, coached training studio for adults 50 and over who want their strength, energy and confidence back — without extreme diets, crowded gyms, or workouts that leave them hurting.
Free, no-pressure conversation. We'll tell you honestly whether we're the right fit.
Sound Familiar?
Most people over 50 aren't broken. They're just under-trained.
If you've noticed any of the following, you're not imagining it — and you're absolutely not stuck with it.
Stairs, groceries and getting up off the floor take more effort than they used to.
You've lost muscle and gained weight around the middle — even though your eating hasn't really changed.
Big-box gyms feel intimidating, crowded and designed for people half your age.
A cranky knee, shoulder or lower back makes you nervous about doing the wrong thing.
You've started programs before — an app, a video, a bootcamp — and quietly stopped within a month.
You've started saying "I'm too old for that" about activities you genuinely miss.
Age isn't the cause. Disuse is.
Muscle loss after 50 is real — but it is overwhelmingly a use-it-or-lose-it problem, not a birthday problem. Muscle responds to proper strength training at 55, at 65, at 75. So does bone density, balance, blood sugar and energy.
What most people are missing isn't willpower or a better diet. It's a properly designed strength program, taught correctly, with someone watching — so it's hard enough to change your body and safe enough to keep doing for years.
That's the entire reason Stronger After 50 exists.
The Flagship Program
The 6-Week Strength Reset
A premium strength & transformation program for adults 50+. Six weeks to safely rebuild strength, improve energy, lose weight and feel confident in your body again — without extreme diets or intimidating workouts.
-
A full fitness & goal assessment
Before you touch a weight, we look at how you move, what you can already do, your injury history and what you actually want back. Everything after this is built from it.
-
A program written for you, not for a room
Your plan is designed around your body, your history and your goals — and adjusted as you get stronger. Nobody here follows along with a class.
-
Coaching on the floor, every single session
A maximum of four people train at a time, so your technique is watched and corrected in real time. That is what lets you train hard enough to change and still protect your joints.
-
Nutrition coaching built around your life
No meal plans you will abandon in two weeks, no cutting out the foods you enjoy. We work with how you already eat and make it support the training.
-
A check-in every week
Someone reviewing your progress and expecting to hear from you. This is the difference between a good six weeks and another false start.
-
A mobility & recovery routine
Simple work you do between sessions so you feel looser and better the next day — not stiff, sore and put off coming back.
-
Support with sleep, stress and daily movement
The hours outside the gym decide most of your result. We help you improve them without turning your life upside down.
-
A clear plan for what comes next
You finish week six knowing exactly where you go from here, so the progress you have made does not quietly unwind.
How often you train is decided together, not guessed at. Some people are best served coming in a couple of times a week; others want more. That depends on your body, your schedule and what you are training for — which is exactly what the free consult is for.
Why Semi-Private
The attention of personal training. Without training alone.
Semi-private means a maximum of four people training at once, each on their own program, with a coach on the floor the entire time. It's the format that solves the two things that stop most people over 50 from sticking with the gym: nobody watching your form, and nobody noticing when you don't show up.
-
Your own program, not the group's workout
Everyone in the room is following a plan written for their body, history and goals. It is not a class.
-
Eyes on every rep
Technique gets corrected in real time. That's how you train hard enough to change and still protect your joints.
-
Booked sessions you actually keep
A scheduled time and a coach expecting you beats motivation every single week.
-
People in the same boat as you
No mirrors full of twenty-somethings. Everyone here is 50+ and working on the same thing you are.

Who You'll Be Working With
Ian Paron has spent over a decade helping adults 50+ get their strength back.
For more than ten years, Ian has coached adults 50 and over to get stronger, build muscle and lose body fat. His approach starts from a simple idea that most people have backwards: you don't get weaker because you get older — you feel older because you stop moving and settle into a more sedentary life.
Through proper strength training, that trend doesn't just slow down. It reverses. Clients improve their quality of life, keep living actively, and take on hobbies and activities they'd written off as no longer possible for someone their age.
Ian is an ISSA Certified Personal Trainer, an ISSA Nutrition Coach, and a NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist. He is also a Registered Massage Therapist registered with the CMTO — which means the person programming your training genuinely understands the shoulder, knee or back you're worried about, and knows how to train you around it rather than telling you to stop.
"You're not too old to start. In most cases, you're just under-trained — and that is a very fixable problem."

Questions
The things people ask before they call
I haven't exercised in years. Am I too out of shape to start here?
No — and this is the single most common thing we hear. Starting from a low base isn't a disqualifier, it's the norm for new clients. Your program begins where your body actually is on day one, established by your assessment, and progresses from there. Nobody gets thrown into someone else's workout.
I have arthritis, a bad back, or a replaced joint. Can I still train?
In most cases, yes — and often it's exactly what helps. Ian is a NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist and a Registered Massage Therapist, so training around orthopaedic history is core to how programs are built here, not an afterthought. We go through all of it during your assessment, and we'll be straightforward with you if we think you should speak with your physician or a treating practitioner first.
What exactly is semi-private training?
A maximum of four people training at the same time, each following their own individual program, with a coach on the floor supervising and correcting throughout. You get real coaching attention and the energy of training alongside others, at a lower cost than one-on-one. It is not a group fitness class, and you are never following along with a room.
How does enrolling work?
It starts with the free consult. We'll talk through where you're at, what you want back, and how the training would fit your week — then walk you through everything involved in joining. Nothing is decided before you've met us, seen the space, and had your questions answered, and there's no obligation to enrol.
Where are you located, and is there parking?
We're at 28 Industrial St, Unit 118A, East York, ON M4G 1Y9 — in the Leaside area, just off Laird. Easy to reach by car with parking on site, and accessible by TTC.
What happens on the free consult? Is it a sales pitch?
It's a conversation. We'll ask what's changed in your body, what you'd like to get back to, and what's got in the way before. You'll see the space and meet your coach. If Stronger After 50 isn't the right fit for you, we'll say so — we'd rather point you somewhere better than sign someone we can't help.
Do I need to be able to keep up with anyone?
No. Everyone in the room is on their own program at their own loads. There's no pace to keep up with, no leaderboard, and no one watching to see what you're lifting.
What should I bring to my first session?
Comfortable clothes you can move in, indoor training shoes, and a water bottle. If you have recent imaging, a surgical history or notes from a physician or physiotherapist, bring those too — they help us build a better program for you.
